Nathan Lyon

Australian veteran off-spinner Nathan Lyon recalled a playful moment of sledging from young Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal during the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 series in Perth. Lyon revealed that Jaiswal cheekily called him “old” during the match.

Lyon, who is Australia’s third-highest wicket-taker in Test cricket, has an impressive record of 532 wickets in 130 Test matches at an average of 30.4, including 24 five-wicket hauls and five ten-wicket hauls. However, he was unable to make a significant impact with the ball in the recent Test.

“He said that to me when I was bowling” – Nathan Lyon

In a chat with SEN 1170 The Run Home, Nathan Lyon revealed how Yashasvi Jaiswal mocked him by calling him “old” when he was in great form in the second innings of the first Test. However, Lyon took it in good spirits and thought it was all part of the fun.

“Young Jaiswal told me you are a legend but you are old, he told me this when I was bowling,” Lyon told SEN Radio.

“He was saying that to me when he was pushing 120, but yeah, it’s all in good fun. Thanks, mate, but I don’t feel that old.”

Yashasvi Jaiswal scored a century in his first test innings

Yashasvi Jaiswal was out for zero in the first innings of the Perth Test. However, he made a strong comeback by scoring a brilliant century in the second innings. With his batting, he put Nathan Lyon on the backfoot. Jaiswal also adopted an aggressive attitude against Australia’s pace trio.

The left-handed batsman scored 161 runs off 297 balls, including 15 fours and 3 sixes. India declared their second innings at 487/6. Virat Kohli also scored 100, ending his century drought in Test cricket. Thanks to the brilliant innings of these two, India won the match by 295 runs.

India will face Australia in Pink-Ball Test in Adelaide from 6th December

The Indian team wants to extend their series lead by winning the Pink-Ball Test in Adelaide. It could be challenging for Yashasvi Jaiswal against Australia’s bowling attack with the pink ball. India will try to avoid the negative memories of the poor performance in the Pink-Ball Test in the 2020-21 tour.

The second Test match between India and Australia will begin on Friday, December 6 at the Adelaide Oval. This will be Yashasvi Jaiswal’s first pink-ball Test. He scored 45 runs in the practice match against the Prime Minister’s XI. He will hope to maintain that form in the upcoming match.

The Adelaide Oval has been a successful ground for Nathan Lyon in Test cricket. Lyon has taken 63 wickets in 13 Tests here at an average of 25.27. His best performance was in the first match of the 2014-15 Border-Gavaskar Trophy, where he took 12 wickets against India.
