Allegations of Age Fraud Surface

However, reports have emerged questioning the accuracy of Vaibhav Suryavanshi age, with claims suggesting that Vaibhav Suryavanshi may be older than his official documents indicate. These allegations raise concerns about his eligibility to participate in the IPL. In response, Vaibhav’s father has strongly denied any wrongdoing, asserting that his son’s age is correct and that all necessary documents were submitted to the IPL and relevant authorities during the auction process.

Father Defends Vaibhav’s Selection

Vaibhav’s father defended his son’s selection, stating that the young cricketer’s talent and performance were the reasons behind his acquisition, and he fully deserved the opportunity. He further clarified that the allegations regarding his son’s age are unfounded and likely based on misunderstanding or misinformation.

A Journey of Sacrifice and Determination

When Sanjiv Suryavanshi sold his farmland to fund his 10-year-old son Vaibhav’s cricket dreams, little did he know that his sacrifice would lead to a historic achievement. Just three years later, during the IPL mega auction in Jeddah, Vaibhav, at 13 years and eight months, became the youngest cricketer ever to be bought by a franchise, with Rajasthan Royals securing him for Rs 1.10 crore. Overwhelmed by emotion, Sanjiv, who hails from the small village of Motipur in Bihar, said, “Woh ab sirf humra bituwa nahi, pura Bihar ka bituwa hai” (He is not just my son now, but the entire Bihar’s son).

Sanjiv vividly recalls the days of hardship when he used to take his son to Samastipur for cricket coaching. “At the age of 8, Vaibhav excelled at the U-16 district trials,” he said. “It wasn’t easy, but my son worked hard.”

Financially, however, it was a tough road. “Cricket is not just an investment, it’s a big investment,” Sanjiv admitted. “We had to sell our land to support him, and even now, things are far from perfect.”

Despite the financial struggles, Sanjiv’s belief in his son’s talent never wavered. He also addressed the controversy surrounding Vaibhav’s age, which has been questioned by some who believe he may be 15 rather than 13. “When he was 8 and a half years old, he underwent a BCCI bone test. He has already represented India U-19. We are not afraid of anyone. He can undergo another age test if needed,” Sanjiv said firmly.

Support from Bihar Cricket Association

Sanjiv also expressed his gratitude toward the Bihar Cricket Association (BCA) and its president, Rakesh Tiwary, for their continued support. “Rakesh ji ka ashirwaad raha hai bahut” (Rakesh ji’s blessings have always been there), he said, acknowledging the role of the BCA in helping Vaibhav’s rise.

Stellar Trials and IPL Selection

Regarding the auction, where Vaibhav’s base price was Rs 30 lakh, Sanjiv proudly recalled how Rajasthan Royals made the winning bid after a competitive battle with Delhi Capitals. “Rajasthan Royals called him for trials in Nagpur. Vikram Rathour, the batting coach, gave him a match situation where he had to score 17 in an over. My son hit three sixes. In the trials, he hit eight sixes and four fours,” Sanjiv beamed.

As of now, there has been no official statement from the IPL or its governing body regarding any investigation into the age claims. It remains to be seen whether any action will be taken to verify the allegations or if this issue will impact Vaibhav’s future in the tournament.

Controversy and Future Challenges

The controversy has also highlighted the challenges surrounding age verification in professional youth cricket, especially in high-profile leagues like the IPL, where young talent is closely scrutinized. As the situation unfolds, it will be interesting to see how the IPL addresses these concerns and whether this controversy has any lasting effects on Vaibhav’s career.
